SEARCHING THE MATERIALS
COLLECTION DATABASE
Each material sample in the Collection is represented in the database
by a catalog record that includes elements represented by the following
search categories:
Keyword
Material Name
Form
Composition
Vendor (Name, City, State, Country)
Course information (Name, Number, Faculty/Contributor)
Accession Number
All of these categories (with the exception of “Keyword”) contain drop lists with current listings of all terms within the categories included in the database.
Searches can be constructed using a single category or multiple categories. If more than one category is used they are combined using the Boolean AND, and results returned will contain only items which match all category terms selected.
Keyword searches scan the text used in the lengthy “description” field that appears in the record for each material sample. Keyword and other categories can be combined when constructing searches.
At the bottom of the Search Page are links that lead to listings of “All Materials” (all entries in the database), “All Brands” (all entries of material samples from vendors), and “All Research Materials” (all entries for materials created by GSD faculty and students).
